Bites Nearby: Urban BBQ

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Takoma Park Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice.

Urban BBQ in Sandy Spring/Olney is worth the drive. The countrified-feel of the setting is a perfect match for the traditional barbeque offerings and turns going out to eat into a delicious summer day trip.

The Sandy Spring restaurant is the newest, and largest, of the "UBQ" locations. Sporting two large dining rooms as well as a Texas-style patio, even on a busy night you will not have to wait long for a table. In case of a short line, head to the bar for a Shiner or a draft Old Dominion root beer.

For dinner choose a barbeque sandwich, ribs or a big barbeque plate featuing traditional barbeque favorites pulled pork, beef brisket, sausage, pulled chicken or barbeque chicken on the bone. The burger menu is also delish with various fancy bbq-themed options for toppings like bacon, chilli, even pulled pork and slaw.

Of course, it would not be a barbeque dinner without the sides. Cornbread, coleslaw, collard greens, corn on the cob, potatoes fried or mashed with gravy, and mac and cheese are all out-of-sight accompaniaments to the meaty main dishes.

Work up an appetite while you wait for your meal to arrive playing one of the board games available for diners' use, or have a go at the shuffle bowl table.
