Peak Bloom for Tidal Basin's Cherry Blossoms

After a long wait—and two revised peak bloom dates—the cherry blossoms are out and in full color around the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC.

Thanks to a colder-than-usual March, the cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC, took longer than expected to bloom. Peak bloom dates were revised twice. This week's warm temperatures, however, seem to have done the trick, and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom by Tuesday. Check out the photo gallery (taken Tuesday evening, April 9, 2013) to get a better look at the blossoms—or, better yet, make a visit to the Tidal Basin yourself. (Just be prepared for the crowds.)

Peak Cherry Blossom Bloom Date Revised...Again

The most recent prediction of when the pale pink blossoms will peak at the Tidal Basin is April 6 to 10, The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang reported.

We're still about a week away from the peak bloom time of the cherry blossom trees around the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC, The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang predicted on Tuesday afternoon, April 2. "The colder than average March and chilled start to April has slowed the emergence of [DC's] famed cherry blossoms. Peak bloom may not be achieved in the previously forecast April 3-7 window. Our revised window for peak bloom is April 6-10," The Post's Capital Weather Gang stated. Cherry blossom peak bloom times are not easy to predict. "Moving ahead, warm, sunny days and mild nights could speed up the bloom process, while cloudy days and cold nights could slow it down," The Gang added. Read more on the latest prediction at The …

Survey: Washingtonians Admit To Picking Cherry Blossoms

In an online survey, 17 percent of respondents admitted to picking the blossoms, according to the Crime Museum.

In a recent survey regarding Washington DC's cherry blossoms, 17 percent of respondents admitted to picking the city's signature blossoms, the Crime Museum said in a press release. The museum conducted the survey on its website. The museum is warning residents against picking the cherry blossoms that surround the Tidal Basin, which is a violation of federal law. For those attending the National Cherry Blossom Festival in search of a keepsake, the Crime Museum is offering free workshops where attendees can make their own origami blossoms. “By letting festival attendees make their own beautiful cherry blossoms, they won’t be tempted to commit a crime by picking these lovely flowers, which are so much a symbol of our city,” Janine Vaccarello…

2013 Cherry Blossom Peak Dates Moved to April
