Updated: Two Found Dead in Takoma Park Driveway

Police received a call that shots were fired shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday.

Two men were found dead on a Takoma Park driveway early Sunday morning. Police said they found two men lying dead on a driveway in the 7300 block of Flower Avenue. The officers were responding to calls that shots were fired in the area. The men were identified as David Draa, 30, of Takoma Park, and Steven Kyle Hickman, 30, of Washington, DC. Investigators said they believe that the men were friends and coworkers at a Washington, DC, special education school. Details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.

Takoma Park Teen Missing Since Sunday

If anyone has seen Simayah Ainsworth you can contact the police department at 301-270-1100.

  The Takoma Park Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a teen girl who was reported missing Sunday. Police officials are investigating the disappearance of 14-year-old Simayah Ainsworth. Ainsworth was last seen on Nov. 11 from the 700 block of Hudson Avenue in Takoma Park, according to police officials. She was last seen wearing a white/black tank top, blue denim jeans and black Nike shoes. Ainsworth is described as a black female, standing 5-feet 5-inches tall, weighing 140 lbs. with brown eyes, long straight black hair. She has a medium complexion. Anyone who has information about Ainsworth's whereabouts is asked to contact the Takoma Park Police Department at 301-270-1100. Refer to case #12055572.

Takoma Park Arrests, Auto Theft, and Robbery Reported

These are the crimes and arrests reported in the City of Takoma Park from Nov. 2 to Nov. 8, 2012. Crime wasn’t reported in Ward 1 to 3.

  Ward 4: 100 block. of Ritchie Avenue: Officers responded to an attempted theft on Nov. 5 at 8:32 a.m. There was an attempted robbery and unknown suspect(s) attempted to steal the victim’s bicycle by cutting the lock. It was unsuccessful. 100 block of Lee Avenue:  On Friday, Nov. 2  at 11 p.m. officers responded to an auto theft that occurred. An unknown suspect(s) stole a green 1999 Dodge Caravan when it was left running. The vehicle was left unlocked and unattended in a parking lot. Ward 5: 8500 block of Flower Avenue: On Friday, Nov. 2 at 2:15 p.m. an 18-year-old woman was arrested for theft under $1000 and released. She stole property from a female victim, according to police. After about a month as Takoma Park’s new chief of police, Alan Goldberg shares his experiences and talks about the future of the police department.

Takoma Park’s new chief of police Alan Goldberg was sworn in last month and said the transition to becoming the new chief has been smooth and enjoyable. Goldberg, who grew up in Aspen Hill, came out of retirement because he said he wasn’t done doing what he loved to do yet. Goldberg has nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience with the Montgomery County Police Department. Takoma Park Patch: What do you see as the biggest crime-related issues facing Takoma Park? Speed Camera Violation Warning Extended

The warning period was extended due to Hurricane Sandy.

  A speed violation warning issued for new speed cameras installed on Caroll Avenue has been extended, according to Takoma Park Police. Starting Nov. 16 at midnight, citations will be issued to violators driving 12 miles over the speed limit. The two new portable speed cameras are located in the 7400 block of Carroll Avenue – one northbound and another southbound. They are a part of the Safe Speed Program. Its goal is to reduce speed and accidents. Current sites that contain fixed pole enforcement units:

Ward 1: 300 block of Tulip Avenue: Officers responded to a burglary on Friday, Oct. 26, at 11:08 p.m. Earlier in the day a window apparently had been broken by an unknown suspect. No property was stolen. Ward 3: 6300 block of New Hampshire Avenue: Police officers responded to a theft that occurred earlier on Friday, Oct. 26. Takoma Park Police officials are reminding residents to stay on alert when they use a self-service gas station pump. In an interview with Takoma Park CTV, Victim Witness Coordinator Diana Dean said the crime isn’t unique to Takoma Park. “Since self-service gas stations are used by most people these days, thieves have identified them as great places to commit their thefts.
