Downtown Silver Spring's favorite shark is here! Despite his ruthlessness, he seems to get the crowd going, with smiles all around. From afar, it looks as though Chompie's body goes through the middle of the Discovery Communications' Building at One Discovery Place in downtown. Chompie was just an idea 2006 until a scale model of the building with the shark was designed to help create measurements of the shark, according to Discovery Communications spokeswoman Tammy Shea. The restaurant serves an average of 300 to 400 guests every Sunday.
Every weekend local residents in Silver Spring (and nearby) can depend on dining at Mrs K’s Toll House on Sunday for brunch. When you walk in the restaurant, the smells make your taste buds salivate with dishes including beef brisket, grits, baked salmon with dill, roasted turkey, baked ham, omelets, a raw bar, and homemade bread pudding. The historic restaurant—located at 9201 Colesville Rd.—took home the majority of the votes Wednesday in a Readers' Choice: Mother’s Day Brunch poll. Out of 15 votes, the restaurant received six. Spiro Gioldasis, the general manager for Mrs K’s Toll House, says it’s no surprise to him that his restaurant was voted number one. “We have been the best brunch for the past 12 years [in this area]. The market's spring debut is Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
When the Fenton Street Market reopens Saturday, Councilwoman Valerie Ervin (D-District 5) will be on hand to speak. Ervin has been one the market's strongest advocates alongside Councilmember Hans Riemer (At-Large). The ceremony to celebrate the reopening will be begin at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive. This is a huge moment of success for lead organizers Hannah McCann and Megan Moriarty. The fate of the market was challenged in July 2011 after county officials considered increasing the market's fee from $48 per Saturday to more than $1,200 each week. The increased fee is based on an hourly rate of $125 to use half of the plaza. FSM officials were initally offered the discounted rate to help determine …
