County Leads in National Discount Drug Program
County residents have saved more than $20 million since 2004.
Montgomery County is still on top when it comes to providing less-expensive prescription medications to residents. In December 2004, the county became the first jurisdiction in the United States to participate in a national program to offer discounted drugs to both the insured and the uninsured. Since then, the county leads the nation in terms of dollars saved through the Montgomery Rx Prescription Discount Program, a partnership with the National Association of Counties. “It started out as the most successful county and it’s still the most successful county,” NACo Executive Director Larry Naake said at a news conference on Monday in Rockville.
