Lumina Theatre Shines With 'The Winter’s Tale'

Young actors learn drama and life skills while performing Shakespeare.

At a Lumina Studio Theatre production, you'll see sights you never thought you'd witness: young people from tots to teenagers performing Shakespeare together, and loving it. The youth theatre company is currently presenting Shakespeare's "The Winter's Tale" at Silver Spring's Round House Theatre. More than 40 young actors fill each of two casts (Green and Teal), which alternate performances. Actors as young as seven have speaking roles in the fully-costumed, imaginatively-staged production as Court Children, Shepherdesses and Pickpockets. "Older" actors (age 15 and 16) are cast in the leading roles of King Leontes, Queen Hermione and the Royal Court. A few adults round out the cast, while musicians of all ages perform live background …
