Reports: Silver Spring Boy Suspended from School for Gun Gesture

Family's lawyer tells local news outlets the school overreacted.

A 6-year-old boy was suspended from Roscoe Nix Elementary in Silver Spring for one day for making a hand gesture in the shape of a gun, aiming it at another student and saying "pow," local news outlets have reported.  A Jan. 2 meeting on the suspension was scheduled, the Washington Examiner reports. "What they're doing is looking at the worst possible interpretation of a young, naive 6-year-old," Robin Ficker, the family's attorney, told the Examiner. "This is a little child who can't form the intent to do anything like that." Ficker told NBC4 the school overreacted because of the killing of 20 children and 6 staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT.  The school cited a previous incident where it alleged the boy threatened …

O'Malley Meddles in Moco, Farewell Fried Oreos, Everything Else You Missed in These 500 Square Miles

It may be August but you'll still want to pay attention to all that's been happening in Montgomery County.

With the Montgomery County Fair, Shark Week and tax-free shopping over, it can only mean one thing: It's the end of August in Montgomery County. Martin O'Malley got involved in a Montgomery County dispute last week? Or that police are looking for a serial hugger/groper in Bethesda? Also, school superintendent Dr. Joshua Starr is reportedly shaking things up in MCPS as we countdown to the start of school. But first, a proper farewell to the county's paean to all things homegrown, local, fried, churned and bovine. Check out Gaithersburg local editor Greg Cohen's Man-vs.-AgFair food challenge at …
