County pools will only be open on weekends until mid-June.
The Long Branch Outdoor Pool and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Outdoor Pool will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday this Memorial Day weekend, from 12-6 p.m. The Montgomery County Department of Recreation operates seven pools. See the Department of Recreation website for more details about pool hours throughout the summer. The pools are opening for the season this weekend, but they will be open only on weekends up until June 10, after which they will be open during the week as well. After two near-drownings this weekend, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue offers these safety tips.
Memorial Day weekend is usually a time of outdoor fun, as communities open their pools, residents fire up the grills and hundreds head outdoors for summer activities. This year, two near-drowning accidents - one in Aspen Hill and one in White Oak - have authorities reminding residents to take precautions while enjoying the sun. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue reminds residents to keep a close eye on children when they are near any water, offering the following safety tips: Never swim alone: Even experienced swimmers can become tired or get muscle cramps, making it difficult to get out of the water safely. If you don't want to start - or end - your Memorial Day weekend festivities with a ticket, then you better buckle up. Police across Maryland will be strictly enforcing seatbelt laws over the Memorial Day weekend. "We will be looking for you and your passengers who aren’t buckling up properly and we will issue tickets to anyone not in compliance," according to a news release by the Maryland National-Capital Park Police. The Park Police will be focusing on nighttime enforcement on Beach Drive, Sligo Creek Parkway and Little Falls Parkway, during the holiday weekend, police said.
