Where do you like to listen to live music in Takoma Park.
Takoma Park may be known for its folk music, but there is a lively jazz scene in the city as well. There's the annual Takoma Park Jazz Fest, which always sees a big crowd to kick off the summer. And for a weekly treat there's the Takoma Station jazz jam every Tuesday. Musicians can come and sit in with the house band to trade licks with other D.C.-based musicians. Some of my greatest memories from when I lived in Philadelphia was watching the area's great jazz musicians cut heads every week at the open jam. The spontaneity of improvisation mixed with a great atmosphere for hot jazz make Takoma Station's Tuesday jams a best bet for weekday summer entertainment. Hear some of the area's finest jazz musicians this weekend in Takoma Park.
It's going to be 91 degrees and sunny this Sunday and the only way to stay cool - at least figuratively - is by taking in the free Takoma Park Jazz Fest on Carroll Avenue June 10 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Featured performers this year include Nicki Parrot and Bria Skonberg as well as Jeff Antoniuk and Jazz Update. The fest has two stages, with music featuring local and nationally known performers, food and craft vendors. To get you geared up for the event we're taking you back to 2011 with all the fun and excitement in pictures.
