Takoma Park, believe it or not, has been the home of several important sports figures over the years. Both past and present, some of these athletes and sports-related folk are not only well known locally, but also nationally. One man on the list is even an international icon. Today we induct five local stars into the Official Patch.com Takoma Park Sports Hall of Fame. 1. Steve Francis, NBA, 1999-2008 Francis grew up in Takoma Park. He attended Montgomery Blair High School, the University of Maryland and then played for the Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic and New York Knicks over a 10-year professional basketball career. Although his exit from the NBA was rather unceremonious, he holds career averages of 18 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds …
