Downed trees and branches and commuters walking home were seen during the snowstorm on Jan. 26.
Reporter's Dispatch: I took to the snow-laden streets of Takoma Park during the season's first significant storm on Wednesday evening. Rain, sleet and heavy snow proved too much for some of the city's trees, causing branches and trunks to snap and fall onto roadways and sidewalks. Commuters huddled under umbrellas as they walked home from the Takoma Metro, and late night sledders either headed home or to their next sledding destination.

As trees get too old and overgrown, they should be REMOVED! I see many old, overgrown trees in the area, ESPECIALLY Takoma Park, a municipality in which getting permission to remove a tree is VERY difficult. "Common Sense" should encourage tree removal when the tree is very old and overgrown, especially if it is a potential hazard to homes or utilities. Such removed trees could then be replaced …   more ›
