Silver Spring native Rebecca Sugar is making a splash in the world of animation. The storyboard artist, writer and composer has received praise for her work on "Adventure Time," an Emmy-nominated show on Cartoon Network. Forbes recently named her to its "30 Under 30" Entertainment list. Sugar graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 2005 and participated in the Visual Arts Center at Albert Einstein High School. She received the Ida F. Haimovicz Visual Arts Award, which is given to a Montgomery County high school senior intent on pursuing a visual arts career. Principal Williams is slated to become an MCPS community Superintendent in July 2011.
On July 1, 2011, Darryl Williams will move on from his four year journey as Blair High Schoool's Principal to become the Community Superintendent for the Gaithersburg, Clarksburg, Watkins Mill, Magruder and Damascus school cluster. Patch sat down with Principal Williams to reminisce about his time at Blair as well as his work in the community. Patch: Can you share your fondest memory of your time at Blair? Darryl Williams: My fondest moment at Blair was when the PTSA had a "meet with Principal" dinner at El Golfo and I met so many parents and students at the fundraiser dinner that night. As families came into the restaurant that night, they met me at the door and introduced ourselves and talked briefly about school before they ate dinner. …

The Blazers won 38-8 on Friday
The Blazers of Montgomery Blair High School have not had a successful season by the standard definition of the word. However, judging by the post-game celebration at the 20-yard line following their 38-8 Senior Night victory over visiting Richard Montgomery on Friday evening, you would never know that to be the case. Blair entered the game with an unimpressive 2-6 record. They won their homecoming game last week over Walter Johnson after dropping four straight contests. The losses they have amassed this season though, were generally not blowouts. It may be an exaggeration to call them competitive, but the Blazers certainly should not be put in the same category as teams like Kennedy or Blake. While losing was certainly the norm for Blair …

The Blazers lost to Sherwood on Friday night.
After a dreadful first half in which the Blazers couldn't get anything going offensively, the Blair football team came out of the locker room and mounted a pair of sustained scoring drives. Unfortunately for the Blazers, the damage had already been done, as Sherwood built a 28-0 halftime lead and cruised to 41-13 victory in its Homecoming game on Friday. "We made a lot of mistakes in the first half and they made a lot of plays," Blair coach Jeffrey Seals said after the game. "I can't take anything away from them. They made the plays and we didn't make the plays on defense or offense." Assani Mudimbi carried the ball 20 times for 94 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Blazers, who fell to 1-5 on the season. Sherwood (6-0) struck quickly, …

The Blair Blazers have several games worth attending this week.
Today starts The Takoma Park Five, the first in a series of recurring lists about Takoma Park. Each weekday, we'll feature top five lists that look at sports, people, real estate, weekend best bets and a wild card topic. (If you want to help us figure out the wild card topic for this week, tell us in the comments section.) First up for Monday is sports. It would be untrue to claim that the Blair athletic program has excelled so far this fall season. However, it would also be untrue to use their mediocre start as a surefire sign of things to come. With most teams approaching the midway point of the season, now is the time for squads to pick up the pace and decide if they want to compete for a regional championship, or sit back while other …
