Silver Spring Man Arrested in Three Armed Robberies

Two of the armed robberies took place in downtown Wheaton Monday.

Montgomery County police arrested a Silver Spring man they allege is responsible for three armed robberies—the hold-ups of a convenience store and a bank yesterday in Wheaton, and an attempted robbery of a Silver Spring bank on Jan. 23. Police allege that Joseph Urrutia, 47, is the person responsible in all three robberies, according to a police statement released on Tuesday. Urrutia, of the 900 block of Benson Terrace in Silver Spring, was charged with three counts of armed robbery and is being held on a $125,000 bond. Police obtained surveillance video of the suspect after the Jan. 23 armed robbery of the Capital One Bank located at 115 University Boulevard, near Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring. Pr. George's Sheriff's Deputies Catch Thanksgiving Carjacker Suspects

Father in the car with young daughter was approached by male suspects with a gun, according to the Sheriff's Office.

  Prince George's Sheriff's Deputies arrested two male suspects who allegedly robbed and carjacked a man and his young daughter at gunpoint on Thanksgiving. The Sheriff's office alleges Francis Holmes and James Gross approached the man as he was parked in the 3200 block of Taylor Street in Mt. Rainer. One of the suspects pointed a silver handgun at the victim when he got out of the car and took his wallet, cell phone and vehicle keys, according to the Sheriff's Office. The victim was able to remove his daughter before the suspects fled the scene in his car. Detectives apprehended Holmes and Gross at the 2900 block of Bunker Hill Rd., according to the Sheriff's Office. Holmes and Gross were charged with armed carjacking, first- and second-…

Police Search for Leisure World Armed Robbery Suspect

Surveillance videos show suspect using a stolen credit card at CVS on Veirs Mill Road.

Montgomery County police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect involved in an armed robbery that occurred in the Leisure World shopping center the night before Thanksgiving. Police have released surveillance footage showing the suspect using the victim’s credit card at a CVS store at 12209 Veirs Mill Road, in Wheaton. The suspect is seen in the videos with his face still masked as he enters the store and makes his transaction at the cash register. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 20 years old, 5-10″, and weighing approximately 200 pounds.  He was wearing a black Northface windbreaker with a hood, dark blue jeans, and a skull cap. Man Arrested in Takoma Park Armed Robbery

The man was arrested in the armed robbery of the Advance Auto Parts store, police said.

A Frederick man was arrested in an armed robbery of the Advance Auto Parts store in Takoma Park, police said. Steven Ray Williams, 42, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, 1st and 2nd degree assault, false imprisonment and theft over $1,000. Two men, one brandishing a gun, robbed the Advance Auto Parts store on New Hampshire Avenue on Sept. 16, Takoma Park Police said. Around 7:47 p.m., police responded to the store for a commercial armed robbery in progress. Two suspects entered the establishment and posed as customers. Takoma Park Maple Market Robbed at Gunpoint

The robbery occurred Tuesday morning.

The Maple Market in Takoma Park was robbed at gunpoint point in broad daylight Tuesday morning, according to Takoma Park Police. On Sept. 25, around 10:48 a.m., police responded to the 7500 block of Maple Avenue to investigate a commercial armed robbery.   Police said one suspect entered the market and robbed an employee at gunpoint, while another suspect stood lookout. The suspects fled in a vehicle heading north on Maple Avenue toward Sherman Avenue to Carroll Avenue. Resident Shot During Armed Robbery in Takoma Park

The robbery occurred around 7 p.m. Monday.

Around 7 p.m. Monday evening, a Takoma Park resident was shot during an armed robbery, Takoma Park Police said. A citizen was exiting a local bank in the 1100 block of University Blvd. when approached by a man with a handgun, police said. The victim was shot and money was stolen. The victim was transported to the hospital and is suffering from non-life threatening injuries, police said. The suspect is around six-feet tall, with a skinny build. He was last seen wearing a black hat, black jacket, black or gray shoes and gray pants. Anyone with information about this crime should call 301.270.1100.

Takoma Park Store Robbed at Gunpoint

Employee, customer cuffed by armed gunmen.

Two men, one brandishing a gun, robbed the Advance Auto Parts store on New Hampshire Avenue Sunday, Takoma Park Police said. On Sept. 16, around 7:47 p.m., police responded to the store for a commercial armed robbery in progress. Two suspects entered the establishment and posed as customers. One of the suspects showed a handgun and ordered one of the victim’s to the manager’s office and restrained her with flexi-cuffs, police said. Both suspects took currency from the registers and then ordered the manager to open the safe. The manager was then put into flexi-cuffs, as well, police said. Both suspects fled out the back door on foot. No one was hurt.

Two Armed Robberies In Takoma Park Overnight

The robberies were within two hours of each other.

Two people were robbed at gunpoint in separate events late Monday night. On Aug. 20 at 11:19 p.m., Takoma Park Police responded to the Econo Lodge in 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. The victim said she had just left the Econo Lodge and was in the parking lot when a suspect approached her, brandished a black handgun and demanded that she return to the Econo Lodge with him. Once inside, where there was a second victim, the suspect demanded property. The suspect exited the Econo Lodge and fled on foot, crossing New Hampshire Avenue toward Kingwood Drive. Man Robbed at Knife Point on New Hampshire Ave

The man was walking with his family.

A man was robbed at knife point while walking with his family on New Hampshire Avenue Friday night, according to Takoma Park Police. Takoma Park Police responded to the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue around 6:40 p.m. on August 17 where a man told them that while he was walking with his family he was approached by three suspects in a vehicle who wanted to sell him property.   When the victim said he did not want to buy the property, the suspect who was sitting in the front passenger seat brandished a pocket knife, 6 inches with a black handle and silver blade. The man with the knife took property from the victim, police said. Neither the victim nor his family suffered any physical injuries. Investigation continues under case #12040859…

Takoma Park Stabbing Victim Released from Hospital

Police are still looking for a suspect.

A man who was stabbed June 19 in an attempted armed robbery was released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, according to Takoma Park Police Crime Analyst Andrew Gucciardo. Stay with Patch for more as this story unfolds. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter, too. Police said, on June 19 the suspect got off a bus heading south on New Hampshire Avenue toward Eastern Avenue.. He approached a man waiting at the bus stop and allegedly asked the man for property. According to police a struggle ensued and the suspect stabbed the man multiple times with a knife.
