I had the pleasure of visiting this amazing school, all the way from California, during the annual meeting of Parent Cooperative Preschool's International, earlier this year, and all I can say is WOW, what an inspiration. Without a doubt, if I lived in this area, Takoma Park Cooperative Nursery School is the program I'd hope to be part of with my child because it truly is a precious gem.
The Cooperative School brings together innovative, caring staff and engaged parents to offer a vibrant arts-based curriculum, parent education, and a supportive community in a beautiful, unique setting. The Cooperative School has educated children and their families for nearly 70 years. We welcome families of all races, colors, religions, and national and ethnic origins without regard to sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status.

This school is a labor of love - for the people who work there, and the parents and families who work right alongside them. If you're looking for a place where you can drop your kid off and have that be the extent of your involvement, this is not a school for you. However, the school is patient and flexible with working parents, and is a top-notch place to go for nursery school. They are serious about early childhood, and rigorous about building social and cognitive skills kids need to be successful in life. Yet, they are quirky and fun and never for a moment forget the joy of preschoolers and life. It's a beautiful place to be.
