Ice Cream Social & Backyard BBQ

• Where:  Whole Foods Market, 833 Wayne Avenue, Silver Spring

• When:  Saturday, July 27, 2 p.m.

• Description:  Ice cream from local stores, BBQ outside including face painting, kids games and live performance by local steel band CAISA.

• Cost:  Free Dolce Gelato scoop to the first 30 kids who register.

Honky Tonk Dance

• Where:  American Legion Post 217, 9218 Baltimore Ave.

• When:  Saturday, July 27, 8 p.m.

• Description:  Two bands playing up honky tonk tunes: Bennie Potter & Western Electric, Patsy's Honky Tonk Torch & Twang.  Food and drink available for purchase.  Free dance lessons at first band break.  Door prizes and 50/50 raffle.

• Cost: $10.

 

Storytime on Lake Needwood: Bugs Crawl

• Where:  Lake Needwood Boathouse, 15700 Needwood Lake Circle, Rockville

• When:  Friday, July 26, 1 p.m.

• Description:  Families are invited to take a story time cruise around the lake aboard the Needwood Queen pontoon boat.

• Cost: 3 & up ; $2/adult, $6 for kids.

 

Bats in the Garden!

• Where:  Black Hill Visitor Center, 20926 Lake Ridge Dr., Boyds

• When:  Sunday, July 28, 1 p.m.

• Description:  Bats can eat thousands of bugs a night, and help pollinate plants and flowers. Unfortunately, many native bat species are facing extinction at an alarming rate. Interested parties are invited to learn about these fascinating creatures and what you can do to help. This is a great course for beginning and experienced gardeners.

• Cost: $5.

 

Happy Hour Introduction to Permaculture Design

• Where:  Cromwell Valley Park, Sherwood House 2002 Cromwell Bridge Road, Towson.

• When:  Friday, July 26, 5 p.m.

• Description:  Introduction into how we can tap our local natural resources (sun, wind, water, soil, flora, fauna) to create site-specific design for a more selfreliant human habitat.

• Cost:  $10 - $20

 

3 Stars Summer Bash

• Where:  6400 Chillum Place, NW, Washington, DC

• When:  Sunday, July 28, 1 p.m.

• Description:  Stars Brewing Company, are bringing together a group of their local brethren for another installment in their ongoing Artists &Artisans Series.

• Cost: $10.

 

Support Our Troops Party

• Where:  Dance Bethesda, 8227 Woodmont Avenue, Bethesda.

• When:  8-11 p.m.

• Description:  Locals are invited to join Dance Bethesda and "Soldiers Best Friend" for a fundraiser dance party to raise money in support of the troops. Help us provide United States military veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder or traumatic brain injury with a trained service or therapeutic companion dog.

• Cost:  $15.

 

Campfire and Nature Walk

• Where:   Locust Grove Nature Center, 7777 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda.

• When:  Friday, July 26, 6:30 p.m.

• Description:  Picnic by the fire, then a nature walk under the night sky with a naturalist. Guests need to bring their own hotdogs and rolls, and we’ll bring the makings for s’mores.

• Cost: $6

 

3rd Annual Ethiopian Heritage Festival Georgetown University

• Where:   Harbin Field/Multisport Facility, Georgetown University, 37th St NW & O St NW Washington, DC.

• When:  Saturday, July 27, 12 p.m.

• Description:  The Ethiopian Heritage Society presents its 3rd annual festival with a three-day entertaining program for children and teens.

• Cost:  See website for details.
