There are few things better than opening up a chair on the beach, stretching out and opening a good book.
My personal favorite beach reads are:
- The Boys of Summer by Roger Kahn - This is probably the greatest book written about the greatest sport. But I'm biased. I grew up with baseball and I'm probably one of the rare people who still have the patience to sit through a whole game and sometimes even fill out a box score.
- Collected Stories by John Updike - One of the all-time great short story writers, Updike writes about the real, middle-class America that I grew up with, even if his stories are set a bit earlier than my childhood in the 80s.
- A Thousand Days by Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. - One of our great historians writing about one of the most interesting times in American history - the 1000 days John F. Kennedy ran the country. And Schlesinger had a front row seat as a Kennedy advisor.
So now we want to know what is your favorite beach read. Do you enjoy fiction or nonfiction? Fantasy or realism? Leave your answer in comments below
