Blair Falls to Magruder, Remains Winless

The Blair Blazers lost to Magruder 26-12 on Friday.

In a game highlighted by penalties, turnovers and a fourth quarter altercation that saw two players ejected, the Blair football team (0-2) suffered a 26-12 loss to Magruder (1-1) Friday night in Rockville.

Magruder took the game's first lead on Daniel Guerrero's three-yard run with 6:41 remaining in the first quarter. Magruder quarterback Garland Owens then put the Colonels ahead, 13-0, on a 17-yard run with 46.9 seconds left in the period.

In the second quarter, Magruder's Tyrii Jackson connected with Sam Buchanan for a 28-yard touchdown with 3:32 remaining. The extra point sailed wide left and Magruder led 19-0 late in the period.

Not to be shut out in the half, the Blazers engineered a scoring drive that was capped by a three-yard run by quarterback Carlos Flores with 20.3 seconds left in the second period.

Directly following Magruder senior Matt Miller's interception return for a touchdown in the final quarter, the two teams became involved in a skirmish on the Blair sideline.

The fight occurred with 7:46 remaining in the fourth quarter with Blair driving downfield on offense. The scuffle forced Magruder administrators, coaches, players and security personnel to rush to the sideline and intervene.

A player from each team was ejected from the game according to both head coaches.

"One of our kids got ejected," said Blair head coach Jeff Seals. "I've got to look at the film and see what happened."

Blair added the game's final touchdown with a 12-yard run by Assani Mudimbi with 3:45 left in the fourth quarter to bring the score to 26-12.

The second half was marred by numerous penalties on both sides. Magruder even had a touchdown run negated by a holding penalty in the fourth quarter.

After suffering a heartbreaking five-point loss to Paint Branch in the season opener, the Blazers were overwhelmed by Magruder in the Colonels' home opener.

"We didn't fight back. We got beat," said Seals. "We laid down."

The Blazers hope to pick up their first win of the season when they host Wheaton on Wednesday.

"They run that funny Wing-T [offense]," said Seals, "and we have three days to prepare for them, two really."
