AUDIO: Keith Lavon: Making Takoma Park proud as a hockey play by play broadcaster
The Takoma Park Native works as a play-by-play broadcaster for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees hockey team in South Texas. Lavon speaks of his Takoma Park roots and experiences in sports broadcasting.
Keith Lavon grew up in Takoma Park on Cedar Avenue.
Like many residents of Azalea City, he attended our local schools of Takoma Park Elementary School, Piney Branch Elementary School, and Takoma Park Middle School.
He played baseball, soccer, and hockey in our local sports leagues.
After studying at Northeastern University, he has now brought his Takoma roots, love of sports and broadcasting all the way down to South Texas.
Mr. Lavon is currently the head of media relations and broadcasting for the AA minor league hockey team called the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.
He eats, sleeps, breathes, and speaks hockey. He travels with the team across the county, calling all home and road games for the team.
Although Keith now lives far away, he never forgets his early years in Takoma Park. He says that the neighborhood is and will always be close to his heart.
