Week in Review: Drug Arrests and ICC Opens

Here's the news from the last week.

In case you missed it, there was a lot of news this past week in Takoma Park.

The opened Tuesday morning after more than 50 years of debate and four years of construction.

The section opening today will allow commuters to drive quickly from I-370 in Montgomery County to I-95 in Prince George's County. Now, all that's left to build of the 18.2 mile highway is a small stretch connecting I-95 to Route 1, which is set to begin construction later this year or early next year.

There were also two drug arrests this week in the city.

Jose O. Arbaiza, a 46-year-old Hyattsville resident, was charged with possession of cocaine, and Romeo Hernandez, 37, was charged with distribution, possession and resisting arrest, according to police.

In an unrelated situation, , possession of paraphernalia and possession with intent to distribute, Takoma Park Police said.

At around 1:37 a.m. on Nov. 26, Takoma Park Police were on patrol in the area of Sligo Creek Parkway and Flower Avenue.  A vehicle was being driven recklessly, police said and a traffic stop was initiated.

The officer approached the vehicle and saw in plain view open alcoholic beverages and several bags of marijuana, police said.
