VIDEO: Isiah Leggett on Volunteerism

The County Executive announced a "Pledge 25" volunteer campaign Monday.

In the spirit of the Martin Luther King, Jr. day of service, many county residents used their day off for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday Monday to volunteer. Activities across the county ranged from park cleanups to food drives, and a volunteer fair took over the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. Monday afternoon, County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) spoke during a musical celebration and tribute to King at Strathmore, driving home the importance of volunteering. Leggett announced a “Pledge 25” campaign, urging residents to commit to volunteering 25 hours between now and the 25th annual county-wide day of service Oct. 22.  Watch Leggett’s speech below.
