Takoma Park Searches for Recycling Artist-in-Residence

Applications are due Apr. 30.

Art and environmental awareness are two pretty visible causes in Takoma Park and now the city government has created a position to fuse the two.

Takoma Park’s Arts and Humanities Commission is soliciting applications for its first Recycling Artist-in-Residence Program. The program and studio space will be located on the grounds of the city's newly renovated, LEED certified Public Works facility, according to a news release. The selected artist will use reclaimed and repurposed materials in all work created during the residency.

The Artist–in-Residence Program will run from July 1 to August 31 and includes:

  • Free studio space during the term of the two-month residency;
  • Access to salvaged, recycled and repurposed materials collected by the City of Takoma Park, donated by community residents and contributed by Scrap-DC;
  • Compensation for one commissioned artwork created during the residency;
  • Exhibition of selected work created during the residency;
  • Educational workshops, classes and/or demonstrations highlighting the creative use of recycled, repurposed and salvaged materials

The deadline for applications is April 30.
