New Book About Takoma Park Released

The book tracks Takoma Park's history of activism.

The history of Takoma Park is the subject of a new book by Caroline Alderson, Diana Kohn and Susan P. Schreiber, of Historic Takoma

The book, which came out April 25, draws largely on Historic Takoma's archives and photos to show the evolution of the city.

The book starts in 1883 when B. F. Gilbert purchased 90 acres straddling the District of Columbia-Maryland border. And it follows through the community activism of the 1960s including the plan to build a freeway through Takoma Park.
