MoCo Delegation to Hear Public Comment on TP Alcohol Bill Tonight

The hearing is at 7 p.m. at the county building in Rockville.

Every year before the legislative session begins, the Montgomery Delegation holds a hearing on local bills so that residents can voice their opinions, and the delegation can decide if they want to pursue the bills.

Monday night at 7 p.m. in the 3rd floor Hearing Room of the County Council Building in Rockville, the delegation will hold debate on nine local bills, including one that would allow restaurants in Takoma Park to sell carryout beer and wine.

Takoma Park City Council voted for a Class B license in the city, which allows restaurants to sell beer and wine for carryout.

Since liquor laws are codified at the state level, the next step is for the Montgomery Delegation to draft a bill for the next legislative session in January. If that passes, restaurants will be able to apply for a Class B license to sell wine and beer for carryout.

If the delegation decides to take up the bill, there is a good chance it will pass in Annapolis. Through an agreement called local courtesy, the rest of the legislature tends to defer to the delegations on local issues.
