Update Aug. 28 4:50 p.m.: Pepco is now reporting 8551 outages in 20912. That's 2000 more than just a few hours ago.

Update Aug. 28 10:10 a.m.: Pepco is now reporting 6511 outages in 20912.

Update Aug. 28 9:20 a.m.: There hasn't been much change for better or worse. Pepco is reporting 6361 outages in 20912. But stay updated, the number could go up.

Update Aug. 28 7:45 a.m.: And the hits keep coming. Pepco is reporting 6343 customers affected in 20912 now.

Update Aug. 28 6:45 a.m.: MoCo Fire and rescue is saying: 334 calls for service. Most calls in Bethesda, Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Kensington.

Update Aug. 28 6:35 a.m.: The power damages right now stands at 5848 customers affected in 20912. Pepco are responding to high need areas first.

Update Aug. 28 6:35 a.m.: After a brief respite we're back. Check here for photos of the damage from Hurricane Irene. Here is the latest from Takoma Park Police.

  • The power is out in Oldtown
  • The traffic light is out at Carroll Avenue/Laurel Avenue.
  • A transformer blew at Larch Avenue/Hayward Avenue.  Pepco has been notified.
  • The 8000 block of Flower Avenue is completely blocked off.

Update Aug. 28 3:45 a.m.: A tree knocked down three poles on Flower Avenue and wires are hanging. Pepco and the arborist have been notified, Takoma Park Police said. Wires are down at 7225 and 8410 Flower Avenue.

Update Aug. 28 3:10 a.m.: A message from Takoma Park Police Chief Ronald Ricucci: "Currently there are numerous power outages throughout the City which has caused a majority of all traffic lights in the City to be out."

Traffic lights are out in the following locations, and there may be more:

  • Maple Avenue/Philadelphia Avenue
  • Carroll Avenue/Philadelphia Avenue
  • Piney Branch Road/Philadelphia Avenue
  • Takoma Avenue/Philadelphia Avenue
  • Sycamore Avenue/Ethan Allen Avenue
  • Ethan Allen Avenue/Carroll Avenue
  • Piney Branch Road/Sligo Avenue
  • Piney Branch Road/Dale Drive
  • New Hampshire Avenue/Erskine Street
  • New Hampshire Avenue/Poplar Avenue

Update Aug. 28 2:30 a.m.: A tree is down with wires down at 1107 Sligo Creek Pkwy., Takoma Park Police are reporting. Park Police have been notified. A pole broke and wires are down on a car at 7122 Woodland Ave.

Update Aug. 28 2:20 a.m.: A transformer has blown on Ethan Allen Avenue and power is out and a tree is down and wires are down on Ethan Allen Avenue/Woodland Avenue and 1010 Larch Avenue, according to Takoma Park Police.

Update Aug. 28 2:05 a.m.: There is a tree down at 111 Elm Avenue near Allegheny blocking the roadway, according to the Takoma Park Police.

Update Aug. 28, 2 a.m.: We might be late on this, but a message from the Takoma Park Farmers Market: Market is open Aug. 28th. Each vendor will decide on their own whether or not to attend, but we are not closing the whole market.

Update Aug. 28, 1:55 a.m.: More bad news. Outages in 20912 are up 4744 according to Pepco.

Update Aug. 28, 1:40 a.m.: We have good news and bad news. The good news is that Maple Ave. has been reopened. The bad news, via Takoma Park Police:

  • 6617 Poplar Avenue - tree down
  • 216 Manor Circle - tree down
  • Columbia at Hickory - tree down and wires down
  • Columbia at Sycamore - tree down and wires down
  • 506 Ethan Allen - tree down, road blocked and wires down Pepco has been notified.

Update Aug. 28, 1:20 a.m.: And now we're up to 3261 customers without power in 20912 according to the Pepco map. The outages are piling up quickly.

Update Aug. 28, 1 a.m.: Pepco now reporting 1885 customers without service in 20912. That's up from 966 just 15 minutes ago.

Update Aug. 28, 12:50 a.m.: The light is out at Piney Branch and Philadelphia Ave., according to Takoma Park Police. The county has been notified.

Update Aug. 28, 12:45 a.m.: Pepco reporting 966 customers affected in 20912.

Update Aug. 28, 12:40 a.m.: All lanes on Carroll Avenue at Long Branch Parkway blocked by a tree down, according to Takoma Park Police. Wires are also down. Pepco has been notified, police said.

Update Aug. 28, 12:15 a.m.: Maple Avenue from Carroll Avenue to Tulip Avenue is closed because of a tree down in the road. There are also wires down, Takoma Park Police are reporting.

On the east side of New Hampshire Avenue from Erskine Avenue to University Boulevard there's a major power failure, police are reporting.

Pepco has been notified of both situations.

Update 11:30 p.m.: After a slow and steady increase in outages, the number has jumped to 667 affected customers in 20912 according to the Pepco outage map. No word on when the powered will be restored.

Update 11 p.m.: Pepco reporting 126 customers affected in 20912.

Update 10:45 p.m.: A transformer blew out at 6600 Gude Ave according to Takoma Park Police. Pepco has been notified. Power is out in the area. In other hurricane news, the traffic light is also out at New Hampshire Avenue and Poplar Avenue.

Update 10:20 p.m.: Pepco is reporting 89 customers affected in 20912.

Update 10 p.m.: Pepco is now reporting 67 customers affected in 20912.

Update 9:40 p.m.: Pepco is reporting 17 customers without service in 20912.

Update 9:30 p.m.: The power is restored to the 200 block of Geneva Ave. Pepco responded within 30 minutes, according to Takoma Park Police. The tree will be removed in the morning and the road remains blocked, police said.

Update 9:10 p.m.: Pepco is reporting seven customers have been affected by in 20912. That's better than in D.C. and NoVa where thousand of customers are without power.

Update 8:20 p.m.: Pepco is reporting fewer than five customers have been affected in 20912. Is your power out?

Update 7:45 p.m.: There is a tree down in the 200 block of Geneva Avenue which is blocking traffic leading up to Hilltop Road, according to Takoma Park Police. The downed tree has also taken out some power lines. Pepco has been notified and is en route.
