Flower Ave Annexation to Be Discussed At City Council Meeting

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Takoma Park Community Center.

Tonight the Takoma Park City Council will discuss a resolution approving the annexation of Flower Avenue as well as a $200,000 contribution from Montgomery County to help fix the road.

At the Feb. 7 Takoma Park City Council meeting  the city annexing Flower Avenue with the city limits and taking control of its maintenance.

The annexation first came up when the state found out it didn't own parts of 410 in Takoma Park and suggested . Residents did not take kindly to giving 410 for the state, so the city decided  and work with each road separately. There has been no movement on 410 other than verifying city ownership.

Annexing the road and overseeing its maintenance would provide a better city image in that area, Councilman Fred Schultz (Ward 6) said at a January city council meeting.

"People see Flower as an entryway into Takoma Park. On one side there are trees, and sidewalks," Schultz said. "And on the other side there is  what could be charitably called crap. It reflects poorly on city. We need to give definition to street and build a proper sidewalk."
