4. Today is Burmese Martyr's Day in Myanmar, which commemorates the assassination of seven pro-independence activists in 1947. This is relevant to your interests because up until at least 2006 Takoma Park once had a Free Burma Committee.

5. And on this day in 1870, France declared war on Prussia and thus started the Franco Prussian War. Not Takoma Park related, but interesting nonetheless.
