Two More Burglaries Hit Takoma Park This Week

Stats jump this week to 89 burglaries for the year.

Two more burglaries in Takoma Park this week upped the tally to 89 for the year.

This year's 88th burglary was committed Tuesday in the 7300 block of Takoma Avenue. Police responded to reports that a burglary had happened between 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The burglar entered by kicking in the front door, but no property was taken.

On Thursday, Takoma Park Police responded to the 400 block of Ethan Allen Avenue for reports of the 89th burglary of the year.  Some time between 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., unknown subjects made entry through an unlocked side door.  Property was not taken.

With 89 burglaries so far, Takoma Park is on the path to break last year's total of 112, according to statistics provided by police.

Police arrested several suspects Sept. 9 who crossed over into Takoma Park from D.C. and had in their possession a computer bag, which held a Toshiba laptop and digital camera, as well as two Apple iPods and a pair of female ear rings.

"It is also believed that these two juveniles are responsible for other burglaries, but not all of the ones that have plagued the city," Takoma Park Police Chief Ronald Ricucci said in a statement.

Even with those arrests, the burglaries continue.

"Word on the street is that people in Takoma Park don't lock their doors and windows," said Ricucci. "Takoma Park is a safe place to live, but people still think you can leave your door unlocked and you just can't."
