Three Men Sought For Westmoreland Armed Robbery

Neighbors still say the community is safe.

The victims were walking down Westmoreland Avenue away from Old Town when they noticed a white minivan drive by them and pull over farther down the road.  The victims walked pass the minivan and heard someone shout out loud.  When they turned to look, two black males exited the minivan and ran toward them.  The subjects demanded property to which the victims complied.  The subjects ran back to the minivan and fled the area.  The victims did not sustain any physical injuries, police said.

The first suspect was a black male in his late teens to early 20's who was around six feet tall and 180 lbs. The suspect was of thin build and dark complexion, last seen wearing a black and white Kufie cap, white shirt, dark pants and was armed with a handgun, according to police.

Residents in the area just off Carroll Street in Old Town Takoma Park said they didn't feel the neighborhood was unsafe.

"I've never been afraid to go out," said Jane Powers, who has been living in the area since 1990. "I don't want my kids walking around at midnight or one in the morning, but I think it's safe here."

Crime can happen anywhere, Powers said.

"This is a safe community," she said. "Most of time people are out on their front porches. And all the neighbors know each other. It's very close knit."
