Thief Caught in Takoma Ave Store

The suspect, Cristina Barun, is from Gaithersburg.

A shoplifter was caught Friday in the 7600 block of Takoma Avenue, police said.

Around 2:30 p.m., an employee at the bookstore noticed the Cristina Barun, 21, of Gaithersburg, hiding a bag under her arms that was covered by a coat. The employee confronted the suspect at the doorway when she attempted to exit the bookstore without paying.

Barun then ran down the hallway to escape and the store employee chased after her. The chase continued downstairs and ended when a security guard intervened. The suspect was held until officers arrived and took custody. The stolen property was recovered.
