Takoma Park Sees 21st Burglary In Just Over A Month

Another burglary hit Takoma Park. This is the city's 21st in just over a month and 87th of the year.

Takoma Park was hit by its 21st burglary since August and it's 87th of the year. Takoma Park Police responded to the 6900 block of Sycamore Avenue for reports of a burglary that had occurred earlier.  Some time between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., subject made entry by kicking in the front door to the residence.  Property was taken and a K-9 search of the premises was conducted to no results.

Though the 21 burglaries are unsolved, two people were arrested Tuesday for first degree burglary and three more were arrested Wednesday, Takoma Park Police said. Police did not say if the five arrested had any connection to those burglaries.

"It is also believed that these two juveniles are responsible for other burglaries, but not all of the ones that have plagued the city, Takoma Park Police Chief Ronald Ricucci said in a statement.

"During a debriefing of our arrestees yesterday, we learned that the word on the street is that Takoma Park is an easy hit with residences with so many valuables inside," Ricucci said.  "[The subjects] further stated that it was easy because so many residences are left with open doors and windows."

All of the burglaries in the string of 21 have occurred during the day and early evening, said Andrew Gucciardo, Takoma Park Police Crime Analyst. So Takoma Park Police are upping their day patrols and unmarked patrols.
