Speed Camera Tickets On University Boulevard Start Saturday

The cameras are meant to prevent pedestrian accidents.

, now it's time to pay up. The new speed camera in the 900 block of eastbound University Boulevard will begin issuing citations Saturday for speeders going 12 miles over the speed limit.

For the past 14 days police have been issuing warnings, but this weekend drivers will face the full penalty. The cameras are part of the Takoma Park Police Department's Safe Speed Program, which has the objective of reducing speed to prevent pedestrian accidents.
