Speak Out: How Did Chief Ricucci Do?

Chief Ricucci's last day is July 31.

Takoma Park Police Chief Ronald Ricucci's last day will be July 31. He's spent over five years at the helm of Takoma Park's police force.

In that time he has:

  • Presided over a reduction in crime in the city by 25.9 percent, with a significant reduction in robberies and burglaries.
  • Created a crime analyst position that targets crime areas and assists detectives and officers in their day-to-day work in combating crime.
  • Created a crime scene unit.  On June 1, 2008, Takoma Park Police launched its first sworn and civilian Crime Scene Unit as a way to better follow up on crime.
  • Installed speed cameras. This one might be a point of contention among motorists who like to drive more than 11 mph over the speed limit. Police installed speed cameras in the 7200 block of southbound New Hampshire Avenue and the 7100 block of northbound New Hampshire Avenue. Two cameras were also installed in the eastbound and westbound lanes of the 500 block of Ethan Allen Avenue.

We want to know how you think Ricucci did during his five-and-a-half year tenure as chief. Tell us in comments.
