Shots Heard Twice Over Weekend

There have been eight reports of shots heard fired this year.

Residents reported hearing shots fired twice in the last three days in two different locations, according to Takoma Park Police.

April 13 around 2:16 p.m., police received a call for shots fired near the 8100 block of Hammond Ave. and on April 15 around 2:32 a.m., police were called out again for shots heard fired in the area of Houston and Roanoke avenues.

Officers canvassed both areas but didn't find any evidence of shots fired.

There have been eight instances of residents hearing shots in Takoma Park so far in 2012.

Gunshots are on the rise in Takoma Park due to more guns on the streets, Takoma Park Police Chief Ronald Ricucci .

"More of the guns are being carried by gang members who like to show off or send a message by shooting them off," Ricucci said.
