Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Montgomery County

The warning is in effect until 6 p.m. for eastern portions of the county.

Alert Montgomery issued the following message:

The National Weather Service has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for Montgomery County.

Significant cloud to ground lightning may be occurring with this storm. Outdoor activities should be postponed until this storm passes.

Severe Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes with little or no advanced warning. Residents are urged to seek safe shelter indoors until the storm passes and remain alert for any additional warnings.

The National Weather Service issued the warning at 5:09 p.m. It is in effect until 6 p.m. for eastern Montgomery County, and effects:

  • Gaithersburg
  • Rockville
  • Montgomery Village
  • Olney
  • Aspen Hill
"This is a dangerous storm," the alert said. "If you are in its path, move indoors to a sturdy building and stay away from windows."
