Reports of Gun Fire Alarm Citizens

An eyewitness helped Takoma Park Police get to the root of the problem.

What was initially a cause of concern for the Takoma Park Police Communications Center shortly after midnight Tuesday turned into relief as police quickly solved the mystery.

The communications center received a flood of calls from citizens reporting hearing shots fired in the area of the 7600 block of Maple, Ritchie and Carroll avenues near Manor Circle, police said.

Police responded to the area and began a canvass. An eyewitness approached officers and indicated that although he believed them to be gunshots at first, he saw fireworks activity in the area of the parking lot in the 7600 block of Maple Avenue, police said.
