Police: Takoma Park Man Drowned at Purple Horse Beach

The man was reported missing Monday after friends said he went underwater and did not resurface.

A Takoma Park man was found dead Monday afternoon by Montgomery County Police at Purple Horse Beach, part of the Billy Goat Trail in Potomac.

Police said fire and rescue personnel were called out around 1:51 p.m. on June 24 with the report of a possible drowning of a 19-year-old male. Rescue officers, along with police, began a rescue mission at the beach and on land, police said. 

The body was recovered Wednesday morning around 9:15 a.m. and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police identified the victim as Ngo Tekwe Forchick of Takoma Park. 

Forchick's death is being investigated by homicide detectives, who said that he had been swimming with friends when they noticed him go under water and not resurface. A witness called 911, according to police.
