Police Looking for Victims of Home Improvement Scam

Karl Leroy Davis was charged with theft, among other crimes.

Montgomery County Police are looking for victims of home improvement scams that have been happening since July, Takoma Park Police said.

Karl Leroy Davis, 42, from the 1000 block of Woods Place in Alexandria, VA, was charged with several crimes, including theft over $1000, failing to perform a contract, operating without a license and theft scheme over $1000, Takoma Park Police said.

Davis would meet with customers, plan out the work, draw up a contract and then obtain a check once the contract was signed. He would cash the check and not perform the work, police said.

Homeowners can protect themselves from becoming a victim by requesting to see a Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC) License, police said.

Montgomery County Police are asking that anyone having any knowledge of Davis engaging in these crimes to contact Officer Hedgepeth, Montgomery County Police 4th District, at 240-773-5500. Callers may remain anonymous.
