Update: TP Teen Found

Update Jan. 3, 10 a.m.: Shawunty Williams has been located and is safe and healthy according to Takoma Park Police.

Update Dec. 21, 2:09 p.m.: Shawunty Williams, the Takoma Park teenager who went missing Monday morning has not been located yet. Sgt. Tina Smith who is heading up the investigation said there was no more information to release, but the investigation is ongoing.

However, Smith said the investigation is not being ramped up beyond what is normally done since Williams has a history of disappearing like she did Monday.

Original story Dec. 20: Takoma Park Police are looking for a missing 17-year-old black female, police said. Shawunty Williams was last seen on December 20 around 5 a.m. in the 700 block of Hudson Avenue.  Her means of transportation and destination are unknown, according to Police.

Takoma Park Police use circumstance as a measure to determine whether someone should be deemed missing rather than using an amount of time, according to Sgt. Tina Smith. In this case, Williams was put in the custody of someone other than her parents and that person needs to know where Williams is at all times, Smith said. Smith would not elaborate further.

Williams is described is 5 feet 5 inches tall, 130 lbs. and has black hair and black eyes with a scar under her right eye.
