Man Pleads Guilty to Sligo Creek Rape

Rivera is currently serving a life sentence for another rape.

A man accused of sexually assaulting a jogger on Sligo Creek Parkway in Takoma Park in 2009 pled guilty to first degree rape. Luis Rivera is set to be sentenced in April.

A woman was sexually assaulted around 5 p.m. Nov. 19, 2009 on the Sligo Creek Stream Valley Trail, Takoma Park Police said. Rivera grabbed the victim as she jogged and forced her into a wooded area where she was sexually assaulted, between Maple Avenue and the Carroll Avenue Bridge.

Police recovered evidence that led them to Rivera and charged him with first degree rape and first degree assault.
