A man believed to be around 60-years old is in critical condition Tuesday after he was rescued from a burning apartment building in Silver Spring, according to a release from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. The man sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local burn center, fire officials said.
Firefighters reponded to the Montgomery Towers at 415 Silver Spring Ave. just before 7 a.m. April 2 with reports of a fire. Fire and heavy smoke were seen from a top-floor apartment, according to the release, and it took more than 100 firefighters to bring the fire under control.
The exact number of residents rescued from the building is unknown, according to fire officials, but a 6-year-old child was among the number of people sent to local hospitals Tuesday morning. Some apartment units were also damanged in the blaze, fire officials said.
