Man Arrested in Takoma Park Auto Theft

The man was also arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

A Temple Hills man was arrested Tuesday in connection with an auto theft in Takoma Park.

Troy Lamont Sweetney, 22, was arrested for auto theft, possession of burglary tools, theft over $1,000, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and CDS paraphernalia, Takoma Park Police said.

On Oct. 2 around 12:11 p.m., police saw a car in a back parking lot in the 7400 black of New Hampshire Ave that had tags for a stolen vehicle out of Prince George's County. About 20 minutes later, Sweetney was seen entering the vehicle.

Police approached Sweetney and saw a screwdriver in his hand and that the steering column on the car was broken. A search yielded controlled dangerous substance and paraphernalia in Sweetney’s possession.

Sweetney was arrested and charged accordingly. He was transported to
the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
