Man Injured in House Fire on Holt Place

Early morning blaze believed to have started from vehicle fire.

Just before 2 a.m. this morning, fire fighters were dispatched to 29 Holt Place, based on a 911 call from an unidentified source, according to Montgomery County Fire Department Public Information Officer Beth Anne Nesselt.

One man, believed to be the homeowner, was taken to Medstar Hospital with critical and life-threatening injuries. Nesselt explained that the man had woken up on his own accord, but could not confirm whether it was due to smoke, the sound of the fire or a smoke alarm.

Officials believe that the fire—estimated to have caused $400,000 in damage—was started in the engine compartment of a vehicle parked in the driveway. The radiant heat from the vehicle ignited combustible materials on the porch which then spread to the structure, Nesselt said.
