Four Vehicle Break-Ins Linked in Takoma Park

All four vehicles were unlocked.

Four cars were broken into in the same area Wednesday and each of the cars were left unlocked before the break-ins, Takoma Park Police said.

Around 5 a.m. Wednesday, Takoma Park Police were flagged down in the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue for reports of a theft from auto that occurred in the 1000 block of Elm Avenue.

Officers found the vehicle doors open and a dark-colored bag in the roadway near the vehicle.

While canvassing the area, officers saw another vehicle with the trunk open and the passenger side door open. An unknown person entered the unlocked vehicle and stole property, police said. The victim inspected his other vehicle and discovered that it also had property missing, police said.

Officers continued to canvass the area and discovered a fourth vehicle with the driver side front and rear doors open.  Unknown suspects entered the unlocked vehicle, but property was not stolen.

A witness described seeing two suspects in the area at approximately 3:00 a.m.
near one of the vehicles while retrieving something from his vehicle, police said. The suspects fled on foot on Hayward Avenue toward Lincoln Avenue.
