Child and Mother Assaulted at Takoma Park Bus Stop

The assault took place Friday morning.

A child and his mother were assaulted Friday at a bus stop near New Hampshire Avenue and Holton Lane, Takoma Park Police said.

Around 11:36 a.m. police responded to the bus stop for an assault in progress. A woman was at the stop with her three-year-old child who was crying when a man told the woman to "shut her kid up," according to police.

When the child continued to cry, the man pushed the three-year-old and knocked him to the ground, police said.

The child’s mother attempted to defend her child and the suspect punched the mother in the mouth and then fled on foot southbound on New Hampshire
Avenue, police said.  

Neither victim suffered serious injuries and police are looking out for the suspect.
