Bethesda Man Arrested for Felony Theft in Takoma Park

The man stole around 700 cell phones.

A 49-year-old Bethesda man was arrested for stealing $2,500 in cell phones that were to be donated to charity, Takoma Park Police said. On March 18 Larry Lynn Deahl, who is being charged with felony theft procured around 700 cell phones from the city of Takoma Park that were to be donated to several organizations.

The cell phones were boxed up, labeled for shipping and placed inside of a business center to be picked up by UPS.  Before the shipment could be picked up, Deahl, as seen on video surveillance driving a 2003 white Chevy Cavalier with Maryland tags, removed the box from the business and left the area, police said.

A run of the tags showed Deahl was not the owner of the vehicle, but the owner did identify Deahl as the person who was the driving. Detectives returned to the business for follow up of the investigation and saw Deahl on the property with the stolen phones.  He was carrying them from the same Chevy Cavalier and putting them back from where he had initially taken them, police said.  Deahl was placed under arrest for felony theft and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
