Mr. Gabe’s debut CD receives Foundation’s “Recommended” Award
The Parents’ Choice Foundation, a national nonprofit organization that reviews and recommends children’s media and toys, announced its Spring 2013 Audio awards last Thursday. Winners include children’s music legend Ella Jenkins, Grammy-award winner Bill Harley and Takoma Park's own Mr. Gabe, a children’s entertainer and father of two.
Mr. Gabe’s CD, Play Date, features new versions of traditional children’s songs (“Five Little Monkeys”), modern classics (“The Motorcycle Song”), and a number of originals that draw on his experience as a stay-at-home dad. A review posted on the Parents’ Choice Foundation web site states: “If you’re looking for a feel-good, comfortable album to share with your family, this one is perfect. Listening to Mr. Gabe sing is like hearing an old friend telling stories on the front porch swing.”
Mr. Gabe, whose real name is Gabe Hutter, commented: “This is a wonderful honor for me. Hopefully, it’ll allow me to expand my audience beyond DC.” He noted that Play Date is held by numerous public libraries across the country. “I’m in Snohomish County, Washington,” he said with a bemused chuckle, “but also in places like Denver, Chapel Hill, and, of course, Takoma Park.”
