Mega Millions Ticket Sold In Baltimore County

Winning Mega Millions ticket purchased close to home.

Maryland State Lottery announced early Saturday a record-breaking Mega Millions jackpot ticket was sold at a Baltimore County retailer.

The ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven store in the 8000 block of Liberty Road in Milford Mill, The Baltimore Sun reported.

By 7 a.m. reporters and television news crews had descended on the store. The store owner declined comment.

Three winning tickets have reportedly been sold across the nation, in Maryland, Illinois and Kansas, forcing a three-way split of the $640 million Mega Millions jackpot.

Earlier, a Maryland Lottery release said lottery officials were awaiting information on whether the Maryland ticket was the sole winner.

"Lottery officials are waiting for information on jackpot winners from other Mega Millions states," according to the Maryland Lottery release.

Carole Everett, director of communications for the Maryland Lottery, told Huffington Post it was too early to know more about the ticket holder or whether other winning tickets had been sold.

“This is truly remarkable and historic,” Maryland Lottery Director Stephen Martino said in a statement. “We can’t wait to greet the winner of this world-record setting jackpot.”

This week friends, neighbors and colleagues have been asking the same question: What would I do if I won hundreds of millions of dollars overnight?

The winning numbers were 2-4-23-38-46 and Mega Ball 23.

The jackpot tops the previous record of a Maryland win, according to a Maryland Lottery news release.
