Eat Eggnog Ice Cream, Help Haiyan Victims

Silver Spring's Tropical Ice Cream Café is churning up special holiday ice creams to help raise money for typhoon victims.

Eating eggnog ice cream doesn't always have to be an indulgence.

This month, Silver Spring's popular Tropical Ice Cream Café is supplying four ice cream flavors for the TropQ Creamery's fundraiser for victims of Typhoon Haiyan, cafe owner Caroline Tay told Patch.

Pints of eggnog, cinnamon, peppermint stick and rum raisin ice cream are $10, and a portion of all sales will be donated to help with emergency relief efforts by Save the Children, according to a flyer from the cafe.

The fundraiser lasts through the end of December.

To buy the ice cream, email info@tropq.com, call 240-305-1491, or visit the Tropical Ice Cream Café at 9324 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, to place an order in person. Allow two days for the ice cream to be ready for pick-up.

Earlier this fall, Tropical Ice Cream Café branched out from serving just ice cream (in dozens of flavors ranging from vanilla and chocolate to more exotic flavors like lychee, guava and papaya) to serving lunch and dinner as well, Patch reported.

Lunch and dinner menu items include Caribbean dishes as well as dishes from other cuisines, owner Tay told Patch.
