Free screening of BRINGING IT HOME about the history and politics of hemp

Hemp – it’s not just for hippies anymore. Today you
can make everything from salad dressing to auto parts to buildings with
it. In fact, American consumers are purchasing over $450 million in
industrial hemp products annually. You just can’t grow it here legally.
BRINGING IT HOME explores the question of why a crop with so many
widespread benefits cannot be farmed in the United States by
illustrating its history, current industries and talking to both
opponents and proponents of the industrial hemp farming legalization
effort.

This film was workshopped at Silver Spring-based film organization Docs In Progress in
2011. Since its 2013 completion, it has screened at dozens of film
festivals, receiving Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival’s
Jury Award and Sedona International Film Festival’s Best Environmental
Film Award as well as an audience engagement campaign with over a 100
community screenings to date. Following the 52 minute film, Docs In
Progress Executive Director Erica Ginsberg will facilitate a Q&A
with filmmakers Linda Booker and Mark Barroso about the making of the
film. Ben Droz, Legislative Liaison for Vote Hemp will also be on hand to
answer questions about the issues raised by the film.

This screening is co-sponsored by Docs In Progress and We Are Takoma, an arts and humanities programming series sponsored by the Takoma Park City Government
