Montgomery County Under Tornado Watch Thursday

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for most of Maryland.

By Elizabeth Janney

On the heels of this week's high temperatures, the National Weather Service reports a cold front is moving in that could produce a tornado, particularly in northeastern Maryland on Thursday.

A tornado watch is in effect from 2 to 10 p.m. Thursday for most Maryland counties, including Montgomery. Under a watch, conditions are favorable for producing a tornado.

The weather service also issued a hazardous weather outlook, noting that severe thunderstorms may produce "damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall" that could lead to flash flooding.

"An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out...especially across northeastern Maryland," according to the weather service.

A small craft advisory is also in effect for the Chesapeake Bay.
